Catherine is an elected leader of the Sault Ste Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians serving the Unit 2 district. She is a graduate of Lake Superior State University with a degree in History and Public Administration. A retired federal employee, Catherine served as Curator to the Les Cheneaux Historical Association prior holding office in Sault Tribe Government.
She currently serves on the EPA, National Tribal Operation Committee representing 35 Great Lakes Tribes from Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota, where building capacity to protect our resources and traditional ecological knowledge is a primary concern.
Catherine traces her ancestry to the Historical Mackinac Bands located at Pt Aux Chene and Pine River. The parents of her grandmother were both grandchildren to signatories of the 1836 and 1855 treaties. Treaty talk has been a topic of conversation at the kitchen table for every generation since.
She is the mother of five sons and the grandmother of 14 delightful grandchildren. She and her husband Richard live in Cedarville Michigan.
